Children
and the Holy Rosary
A traditional prayer that aids in contemplating Jesus' life
is the recitation of the Rosary.
The Latin origin of the word "rosary" refers
to a garland of roses.
The Blessed Virgin Mary is represented by the roses.
In 1974 Pope Paul XVI wrote: “There is no doubt that the Rosary to the Blessed Virgin should be considered as one of the best and most effective common prayers that the Christian family is invited to pray.”
The simplicity of the Rosary is one thing that surprises people. It doesn't take much to learn, and it's neither remarkable nor sensational. Because it is a wonderful and continuous expression of our love for God through the Virgin Mary, the Rosary is a most well-liked prayer for people of all ages.
Repeating the same words over and over during the Rosary helps us realize that the significance of the prayer is not in what we say. Through us, the Holy Spirit offers prayers. We are not required to say intricate or remarkable things when we pray; all we have to do is be willing and available for the Holy Spirit to work in us.
Why should we offer prayers to Mary?
Why should we not speak to God directly, but instead ask Mary to intercede on our behalf?
Mary is both our mother and the Mother of Christ and when we pray to the Virgin Mary, we are putting our trust in her intercession.
